My home office is approximately 10x14 feet in dimension and I share it
with no one but the cats. My workstation is a Power Macintosh G5
running Mac OS X. It's equipped
with four high resolution monitors, spanning just under 6 feet wide
(and roughly 7 megapixels. :-)
My office is quiet, private, extremely well-lit, and optimally
configured for both comfort and productivity.
The only distraction I ever have is the occasional feline
visitation (mostly, they sleep) or perhaps the rare doorbell events
if the postman delivers a package,
We have an always-up, firewalled, broadband Net connection.
Our local intranet consists of a "family pack" of Mac OS X machines,
plus a sole remaining Mac OS 9 system that can run Windows 98
under Virtual PC.
Conveniently located nearby are a photocopier, a fax
machine, a high-resolution color scanner, and a high-speed
high-res duplex laser printer.
I have a personal telephone
line and voicemail.
Close at hand, I keep an extensive personal reference library of
books on many subjects. These cover
English grammar, style, and syntax, as well as
Perl, HTML, CGI, XML, PHP, Apache, C, and much more.
