I am an accomplished information technologist, documentation specialist, web weaver, and data flow programmer. I am passionate about improving Communication, Documentation, Process, Quality, and the potential of the Internet. I apply my experience in software engineering and web technology with my skills at problem solving and technical writing to enhance productivity through improvements in communication. My hobbies include social computing, blogging, tinkering with web browsers, making great looking web sites, and keeping up with cool open-source toolkits. I am a frequent user of HTML, CSS, Perl, and PHP in day-to-day activities. I have written Perl scripts to drive the selection of words (or quotes) for two web-based weekly writing prompts; created the CGI scripts that drive alumni registration for the Taligent alumni pages and X-Porters alumni group. I act as system administrator for our FreeBSD 4.7 and Mac OS X network. I have built, installed, and configured Apache, procmail, qpopper, Spam Assassin, MySQL, Moveable Type (weblog engine), TWiki (wiki system), and numerous Perl modules. I am the creator and maintainer of several web sites and the author of multiple weblogs.
My job skills and preferences, links to sample code, published articles and the Perl book I co-authored, as well as links to my weblogs and endorsements from former clients, are available online from my professional pages at http://www.philtres.com/vlb. Specialties and Interests
